Road Safety: Little Learners at Willows Pre-School Buckle Up for Fun!
This week at Willows Pre-School Wimbledon, the wheels were turning – but not literally (at least not in the way you might think)! Our curious crew embarked on a road safety adventure, transforming our garden into a bustling mini-metropolis.
Lights, Camera, Crosswalk!
The highlight of the week was a larger-than-life role-play session. Zebra crossings were meticulously marked on the ground, transforming the familiar green space into a safe and interactive learning zone. Our little pedestrians practiced the essential art of crossing the road safely. They learned to look left and right, ensuring a clear path before stepping onto the crossing, and most importantly, they understood the importance of a slow and steady pace – no running allowed!
Safety Superstars in the Making:
The children weren’t just passive participants; they actively embraced various roles. Some donned imaginary driving hats and navigated their “vehicles” around the designated walkways, demonstrating responsible driving behavior. Others proudly donned the iconic red and white stripes of a lollipop person, ensuring safe passage for their fellow pedestrians. We even had some kind-hearted volunteers who stepped into the shoes of older individuals needing a helping hand while crossing!
Planting the Seeds of Safety Early:
We believe road safety education is a journey that begins long before a child takes their first independent steps. Even when snuggled securely in their buggies, there’s so much learning to be done! Our teachers playfully point out different types of vehicles, helping children develop a general awareness of their surroundings. As these little explorers graduate from strollers to walkers, we engage them further with interactive games. Spotting a yellow car, counting the number of big red buses, or waving at a friendly motorbike rider – these seemingly simple activities go a long way in building a strong foundation for road safety knowledge.
