Job Description

Willows Pre-school is expanding and looking for new teaching assistants to join our bright and vibrant team. The new practitioner will bring with them enthusiasm, passion and a profound understanding of how children learn. They will assist the teachers in supporting a key group and be given opportunities to progress within the setting.

Main duties

To provide safe, high quality education and care for pre-school children; to fulfil legal and statutory requirements; to lead and manage staff on a day-to-day basis; to contribute to and to implement pre-school policies.

  1. To assist the key person with a group of children, liaising closely with parents/carers and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met accordingly.

  2. Assist in communicating with parents on a daily/weekly basis via the communication book and take part in bi-annual parents’ evenings as well as parent workshops.

  3. To advise the room leader and/or manager of any concerns regarding child protection, wellbeing, special educational needs, parents/carers or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.

  4. To be aware of any special educational needs a child may have and to familiarise oneself with any relevant documents regarding a child’s learning and liaising with the setting’s SENCO as needed.

  5. To attend the occasional Saturday’s to participate in parent workshops & sports days, staff meetings are once a month after work at 6pm, which staff are obliged to attend. Parents’ evenings take place bi-annually during the week and start at 5pm.

  6. To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families, staff and the setting.

  7. To keep up-to-date with current practice, and to attend ongoing training.

Key Skills and Attributes

  1. Personable and willingness to learn.

  2. Understanding of the EYFS specifically the prime areas of learning.

  3. Very good knowledge and understanding of observation and planning methods.

  4. Friendly, adaptable and able to work as part of a team whilst also using initiative.

  5. Excellent communicator with both parents and staff.

  6. NVQ or CACHE Level 2 or 3 candidate, and willing to continue with their ongoing professional development.

  7. A satisfactory enhanced DBS check which confirms suitability to work with children.
